With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of an extraordinary woman, Mrs. Josephine Wright, who fought valiantly for her land and legacy until her final breath. As we extend our condolences to her family and beloved granddaughter, Tracey Love Graves, we reflect on the inspiring journey of Mrs. Wright and the indomitable spirit that defined her life.

Mrs. Josephine Wright, a resilient and determined 93-year-old, captured the hearts of many when she took a stand against developers attempting to seize her family's cherished land on Hilton Head Island (HHI). Her struggle became a symbol of resilience and resistance against the encroachment of progress on the legacies of marginalized communities.

In the face of adversity, Mrs. Wright found an unexpected ally in the form of renowned filmmaker and philanthropist Tyler Perry. Moved by her story, Perry embarked on a mission to build a new home for Mrs. Wright. Other celebrities joined the cause by contributing to the GoFundMe account created to cover the legal cost. This act of kindness demonstrates the power of collective action. It highlights the importance of standing up for justice, no matter how formidable the opposition.

Mrs. Josephine Wright's legacy goes beyond the legal battles and property disputes. It extends to her profound impact on those who witnessed her unwavering determination. She reminded us that age is no barrier to resilience and that fighting for justice is a timeless endeavor.

As we mourn the loss of this incredible woman, we also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind. Mrs. Wright's tenacity and the outpouring of support she received from the community will forever be etched in our memories.

In this difficult time, our thoughts and condolences are with Tracey Love Graves, who not only supported her grandmother in the fight for justice but also shared in the joy of witnessing a community rally around a noble cause.

Mrs. Josephine Wright's funeral took place on the 13th of January 2024, and the burial was held today, marking the end of an era but the beginning of a lasting legacy. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us honor her memory by continuing the fight for justice, standing up against injustice, and preserving the legacies of our communities for generations to come.
