Social Media Platform News and Updates for April 2026
The new month brings new updates for all social media platforms that marketers can't live without, and consumers can't get enough of daily. As you're working to meet your client deadlines or finalize that new marketing campaign, check out these social media updates that will help you stay in the know of the new features and releases for crucial platforms.
Social media updates for Meta
Meta Tests a Standalone AI Video App: Last September, Meta announced its plan for an AI-vibes-only platform... and testing is underway. The AI-focused platform is currently called "Vibes." If you're interested in testing it out, the app Vibes is currently available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
Social media updates for LinkedIn
Report finds that uploaded PDFs on the feed drive engagement as Carousels: As marketers, we understand the power of a "lingering" post, and nothing does it better than a Carousel. Well, on LinkedIn, there are many ways to create a carousel, but a recent study finds that PDFs uploaded to create a carousel post are the most effective for engagement.

The Ezer POV: This isn't surprising. With all of the recent changes and feature updates, multiple photos can be uploaded as a collage, and some have turned the multiple frames into a video post. The challenge with the callage is that it takes away the "swipe left" effect and carousels are turned into videos, then played by the rules of video content on the algorithm. That's a completely different experience.
Our recommendation: Take the time to tailor your content according to each platform. PDF-style content on LinkedIn makes for a very polished "swipe left" experience. It keeps your audience engaged, and the algorithm notices their "linger" -- which tells it to serve it to more people! This approach requires a little more effort from your social media team, but it's worth it!
Social media updates for Facebook
Facebook introduces AI Glasses built for prescriptions: If you want to try AI glasses but need a prescription, now's your chance! The platform's newest Ray-Ban Meta glasses are built to better serve people who rely on prescription glasses and all-day eyewear. They will be available in two unique styles: Blayzer, a rectangular design available in Standard and Large sizes, and Scriber, a more rounded frame style.
Social media updates for Instagram
Instagram announced that some Creator tools are now available to public accounts: As of March 2026, Instagram unlocked their creator toolkit for ALL public accounts, including content scheduling, an insights dashboard (see what's actually working), trending audio tools, and performance analytics beyond your followers.
Social media updates for Pinterest
Pinterest brings a phone-free experience to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival: Imagine an experience during a music festival without your phone! This was a reality with the Pinterest activation at Coachella, April 10-12 & April 17-19, 2026. "Coachella is one of the biggest moments of the year for self-expression, and Pinterest is where people go to discover what they want to try next. This year, we’re inviting festival-goers to stop scrolling past their lives and start living them. By creating a phone-free experience, we’re making it easier to be truly present with friends, embrace the moment, and bring inspiration to life,” says Sara Pollack, Global Head of Consumer Marketing at Pinterest.
Social media updates for X
XChat makes its debut: Voice notes are now a thing for X replies through XChat. This new feature gives users another option for engagement.
Social media updates for TikTok
TikTok Shop is projected to be the third-largest retailer globally by 2030: You read that right. According to recent studies. TikTok Shop is on its way to becoming the 3rd-largest retailer in the global marketplace.
